María Corina Machado
Résistance démocratique au Venezuela.
An industrial engineer by training, María Corina Machado has campaigned for free elections in Venezuela for more than two decades. She co-founded the election-monitoring group Súmate, won a seat in the National Assembly in 2010 and went on to build the Vente Venezuela movement, winning the opposition's 2023 primary by an overwhelming margin. Her work for a peaceful democratic transition earned her the Sakharov Prize in 2024 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025, making her one of Latin America's most recognized civic leaders.
Her perseverance in mobilizing citizens on a large scale through peaceful means, and the international recognition it has earned, speak directly to the criteria of responsible leadership and global reach.
