Denis Mukwege
Nobel. 50 000+ femmes soignées.
A gynecologist who trained in France, Denis Mukwege founded Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, in 1999. There he has treated tens of thousands of women subjected to sexual violence used as a weapon of war, pairing reconstructive surgery with psychological care, legal support and economic reintegration. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and the Sakharov Prize in 2014, the doctor known as the man who repairs women carries their cause to the United Nations and to parliaments around the world.
His holistic care model, now an international reference, and his steady advocacy against impunity make him an example of responsible leadership in the service of the most vulnerable.
