Strive Masiyiwa founded Econet Wireless in Zimbabwe in the late 1990s and went on to build one of Africa's leading telecommunications and technology groups, operating across dozens of countries. Based in London, he later created Cassava Technologies, which develops fiber networks, data centers and cloud services for the continent. During the Covid-19 pandemic he served as an African Union special envoy on vaccine access. With his wife Tsitsi, he funds the education of tens of thousands of young Africans through the Higherlife Foundation, and he has become one of the continent's most widely followed business voices.
He embodies an African capitalism focused on infrastructure and education, with an influence that reaches well beyond business.
