Chief executive of Africa Finance Corporation since 2018, Samaila Zubairu leads one of the continent's foremost infrastructure finance institutions. A chartered accountant by training and former chief financial officer of Dangote Cement, he helped structure major Nigerian industrial projects before joining AFC, a multilateral institution based in Lagos. Under his leadership it has more than doubled its assets and invested over twelve billion dollars in power, transport, telecommunications and industry across some thirty countries, including the Lobito rail corridor, while drawing new capital from Asia, the Gulf and Europe.
He shows that an African institution can finance the continent's infrastructure at scale and bring global investors into projects with measurable impact.
