Chief executive of HSBC, Noel Quinn has spent most of his career inside one of the world's largest banking groups. He joined a British bank later absorbed by HSBC in the late 1980s and rose through the ranks, running commercial banking in Asia and then worldwide, before taking the top job in 2019. He refocused the group on its strongest markets, from Hong Kong to the Middle East, simplified its structure and committed the bank to a net-zero pathway, reinforcing its role as a financial bridge between the West and Asia.
He steered one of the largest balance sheets on the planet through the pandemic and geopolitical tension, taking clear strategic positions on climate and on Asia.
