Demis Hassabis
Nobel de Chimie 2024. AlphaFold.
A chess prodigy who was designing video games as a teenager, Demis Hassabis studied computer science at Cambridge and neuroscience at UCL before co-founding DeepMind in 2010, acquired by Google four years later. His laboratory reshaped artificial intelligence with AlphaGo, which defeated Go champion Lee Sedol, and then AlphaFold, which predicted the structure of nearly every known protein and earned him a share of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He now leads Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs, a company applying AI to drug discovery.
Few leaders have, within a decade, changed both an industry and a scientific discipline; his impact is measured in millions of protein structures made freely available to researchers worldwide.
