Bobi Wine
Musique comme arme politique. Opposition Ouganda.
Singer turned politician, Bobi Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, grew up in a working-class neighborhood of Kampala and became one of East Africa's most popular musicians, known as the Ghetto President. Elected to Uganda's parliament in 2017, he went on to lead the National Unity Platform, the country's main opposition party, and ran for president in 2021. An Oscar-nominated documentary about his journey brought his story to audiences worldwide. Through music and organizing, he has given voice to the aspirations of one of the youngest populations on the planet.
He embodies the move from the stage to civic engagement and gives an international voice to the aspirations of a young African majority.
